Kunle Afod Raises Alarm Over Ogun Expressway Crash
The Nollywood actor appeals for urgent rescue assistance after reportedly finding accident victims without an ambulance at Shapade, while Ogun’s TRACE confirms a serious single-vehicle crash
Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has appealed to the Ogun State Government, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other emergency agencies to urgently assist victims of a serious road accident at Shapade, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, on Friday, November 6, 2026, after alleging that no ambulance had arrived about 20 minutes after he encountered the scene.

Afod raised the alarm in a video shared on his Instagram page, showing an accident involving a bus and several people lying on the roadside.
The actor expressed concern over the apparent delay in emergency assistance and urged authorities to mobilise rescue teams without further delay.
“It’s a terrible accident we came across on the way along the Ibadan-Shagamu Expressway right now, and it’s so sad that for about 20 minutes that we’ve been here there has been no ambulance, no emergency services to come and help them,” he said.
The actor explained that attempts to contact emergency responders had not produced the assistance needed, while some motorists appeared unwilling to stop and help those involved.
“Nobody, we’ve been trying to call emergency workers to come and help them. See people lying down helplessly. You can see them, you can see the car behind me, the bus behind me now,” Afod added.
He expressed frustration over the situation, questioning why victims of such a serious incident appeared to be waiting without immediate medical attention.
“People should please come to their aid right now, right now,” he appealed.
In the accompanying Instagram caption, Afod described the situation as an emergency and urged rescue teams, government authorities and members of the public to intervene.
“Lives may be at risk. Every second counts!” he wrote, encouraging social media users to share the appeal to attract the attention of the relevant agencies.
The actor also included a viewer-discretion warning, noting that some of the footage from the accident scene could be disturbing.
However, an update from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) provided an official account of an accident on the same expressway.
In an alert issued on Friday through its Saapade Unit Command and signed by Odutola Babatunde, TRACE confirmed a serious single-vehicle road accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The agency said its operatives were monitoring the situation and that the incident had not disrupted traffic movement along the highway.
“Traffic flow on the expressway has not been affected by the incident, while TRACE operatives are monitoring the situation,” the alert stated.
TRACE added that further information would be released as it became available.
Although the agency’s alert confirms an accident in the area, it does not establish whether the incident was the same one recorded in Afod’s video or provide details about the victims’ medical condition and rescue arrangements.
The apparent gap between the actor’s account and the agency’s brief update leaves important questions about the speed of emergency medical intervention unanswered.
The incident has also drawn attention to the emergency response arrangements along the busy Lagos-Ibadan corridor, which has recorded several serious crashes.
On October 30, 2026, two separate accidents occurred along Ogun State’s expressway corridors, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to a report by The Guardian.
In one of the incidents, a motorcycle reportedly collided with a stationary broken-down truck on the Benin-Ore Expressway, killing one person.
In another, a blown tyre on a truck caused it to hit a car at Ayedere, near Obada-Oko, leaving one occupant injured.
TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi said officers of the agency and the FRSC participated in the rescue operation, while a good Samaritan had taken the injured victim to a nearby health centre before the officials arrived.
In January 2026, another crash at Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway killed one person and injured eight others after a truck conveying farm produce reportedly veered into a ditch.
The incident was attributed to the driver falling asleep at the wheel, according to a report by The Punch.
Ogun State has an established emergency response structure involving TRACE and the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (OGSEMSAS).
In March 2026, both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to improving emergency medical assistance for road crash victims through closer operational collaboration.
During a meeting at TRACE headquarters in Abeokuta, OGSEMSAS Director, Dr Hassan Adelakun, urged field commanders to promptly notify the medical agency of emergencies through its dedicated telephone line, 08112000033, to facilitate faster intervention.
TRACE also called for improved first-aid training for its personnel to strengthen their capacity to assist accident victims before medical teams arrive.

The FRSC also operates an Emergency Ambulance Service Scheme, known as the EASS Zebra, which provides ambulance support along major highways.
The Corps identifies 122 as its toll-free emergency number for reporting road crashes and requesting assistance.
For Ogun State motorists, TRACE also publishes emergency contact numbers, including 08024149595, 08062703568 and 07069425555.
As attention turns to the victims at Shapade, the immediate priority remains ensuring that anyone injured receives prompt medical assessment and appropriate treatment.
Neither the precise number of people involved in the incident shown by Afod nor the cause of the crash had been independently established at the time of filing this report.
The condition of the victims and whether they had subsequently been evacuated to medical facilities also remained unclear.
There was no publicly available response from the Ogun State Government, FRSC or OGSEMSAS directly addressing Afod’s allegation of delayed emergency assistance at the time of publication.
For the actor, the appeal was an urgent call for compassion and institutional responsibility, with the hope that the victims would receive the assistance they needed.
