The incident reportedly occurred at Mararaban Vimtim on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at about 8pm, after an argument broke out between the two neighbours over meat allegedly taken from a butcher’s table.

The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, November 5, saying the disagreement escalated when Augustine allegedly used a knife to stab Markus in the chest.

“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest,” the statement said.

According to the police, the victim’s father, identified as Markus Gabo, reported the incident at about 8.45pm on the same day.

Officers attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters subsequently visited the scene, where they found Markus lying dead in a pool of blood.

The operatives recovered a sharp knife suspected to have been used in the attack and arrested Augustine, who was taken into custody.

The victim’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

Nguroji said the suspect and the case diary would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and assured residents that the command would pursue justice.

He also urged members of the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and report disputes to the police rather than resorting to violence.

The killing comes days after another fatal neighbour dispute was reported in Akinlalu community, Osun State, where a farmer, Samson Gabriel, was allegedly hacked to death with a machete following an argument reportedly linked to money.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a suspect, Lekan Oyebamiji, in connection with Gabriel’s death, while investigations were launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Although the two incidents occurred in different states and involved separate circumstances, they have drawn attention to the potentially fatal consequences of violent confrontations arising from everyday disagreements.
