Isaac Fayose Mocks Sowore Over Attack, Urges Him to Unite Against APC

The political commentator made the appeal while reacting to the alleged attack on the AAC presidential candidate and his campaign team in Ekiti State

Political commentator Isaac Fayose has urged the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, to work with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose made the appeal while reacting to the alleged attack on Sowore and members of his campaign team in Ekiti State on Friday.

However, the commentator said he had little sympathy for Sowore over the incident, accusing him of repeatedly criticising the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, instead of focusing on the ruling party.

He argued that opposition figures should put aside their political differences and unite against the APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu, which he described as their common political opponent.

In a video shared on his Facebook page, Fayose said Sowore should stop attacking Obi and redirect his attention towards building a united opposition ahead of the next general elections.

“Instead of attacking Peter Obi, you can see now that we have a bigger enemy. APC led by President Bola Tinubu is the enemy of our country.

“They are the ones destroying our democracy, they are the ones killing our democracy. We need to come together to fight them,” he said.

Fayose also reminded Sowore of previous incidents in which opposition figures and political supporters allegedly faced attacks in states such as Benue and Plateau.

According to him, Sowore had not shown sufficient concern when similar incidents affected others but was now experiencing the consequences of political hostility himself.

“When they did it to us in Benue, Plateau and other places, you were looking. You think you are the actor but now you are in the hospital. Democracy in Nigeria is gone,” he added.

The commentator reiterated that opposition leaders needed to put aside their disagreements and work together to challenge the APC in 2027.

“I don’t feel sorry for you. Leave Obi alone, let us concentrate on the real enemy of the people, which is APC. Let us join hands to chase them away,” Fayose said.

Sowore had earlier alleged that he and members of his team were attacked by suspected political thugs in Ado-Ekiti during a campaign-related engagement.

The AAC candidate also accused the authorities of failing to adequately address the incident, while alleging that security agencies seized CCTV footage that could help establish what happened.

The allegations have added to concerns over political violence and the safety of opposition figures as parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
