PSC Dismisses 3 Senior Officers Over Misconduct

The Police Service Commission also demotes 16 officers, reprimands 23 others and clears three personnel following disciplinary reviews in Abuja

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others over established cases of misconduct and conduct unbecoming of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The commission also approved severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others, bringing the total number of officers sanctioned to 42. Three additional officers were exonerated, while some previously suspended personnel were reinstated into the Force.

The decisions were reached during the commission’s plenary meeting in Abuja, presided over by its chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall, the PSC headquarters.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the commission’s Head of Protocol and Public Relations, Torty Njoku Kalu, said the dismissals followed established cases of serious misconduct.

The PSC said the disciplinary decisions reflected its commitment to enforcing professional standards and strengthening accountability within the police.

Argungu reaffirmed the commission’s zero-tolerance position on corruption, human rights abuses, interference in land and civil matters, and other forms of misconduct by police personnel.

He also assured Nigerians that disciplinary cases brought before the commission would continue to receive prompt attention, stressing the need for timely decisions to ensure accountability within the Force.

The chairman commended members of the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, led by retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, for their contributions to the review of disciplinary cases and appeals.

Other officials recognised for their roles included retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Taiwo Lakanu, retired Justice Christine Dabup, Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, the commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and the Director of the Police Discipline Department, Ferdinand U. Ekpe.

According to the commission, the cases underwent consideration at departmental, committee and plenary levels before the decisions were reached.

The latest action adds to a series of disciplinary measures taken by the PSC this year. In July 2026, the commission announced the dismissal of four senior officers, the demotion of 10 others and various sanctions against additional personnel.

However, the commission’s latest statement did not disclose the identities of the officers affected or provide details of the specific misconduct established against the three dismissed personnel.

It also did not identify the previously suspended officers who had been reinstated.

The PSC is responsible for exercising disciplinary oversight over the Nigeria Police Force, including decisions on appointments, promotions and dismissals, subject to the applicable constitutional and legal provisions.

The commission said it would continue to enforce disciplinary standards and ensure that officers found culpable of misconduct face appropriate sanctions, while those cleared of allegations are allowed to continue their service.
