Odogwu Asaba Trial: Five Witnesses Testify in Rape, Manslaughter Case

The witnesses include the deceased’s family members, a medical doctor and an investigating police officer as the Delta State High Court adjourns proceedings until November 19

The prosecution on Wednesday presented five witnesses and video evidence in the trial of Nigerian content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, over alleged rape and manslaughter linked to the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro in Delta State.

The proceedings took place before the Delta State High Court in Asaba, where the prosecution called members of the deceased’s family, a medical doctor who conducted her post-mortem examination and an investigating police officer to testify.

Those who appeared as witnesses included Agbro’s twin sister, brother and father, alongside the doctor and the police investigator handling the case.

The prosecution also presented video evidence as part of its case against Ogbonna, who is facing charges arising from allegations surrounding Agbro’s death in June 2026.

However, the defence counsel requested additional time to examine the statements of the prosecution witnesses and other materials recently served on the defence.

The prosecution team, led by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, alongside the Director of Public Prosecutions, Tejiri Anuhwin, said it was ready to proceed with the trial.

The prosecution, however, acknowledged the need to give the defence sufficient time to study the additional evidence and prepare its response.

Ogbonna had pleaded not guilty to the charges on October 21, 2026, when he was arraigned before Justice Michael Nduka Obi.

The allegations relate to events in June 2026, when Agbro reportedly died after ingesting a toxic substance following an alleged sexual assault.

The content creator was arrested and subsequently arraigned after allegations emerged over his involvement in the incident.

Following his arraignment, the court ordered his remand at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre.

The case has attracted public attention because of the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death and the allegations against the social media personality.

The court adjourned proceedings until November 19, 2026, for continuation of the trial, with the prosecution expected to present further witnesses and evidence.

Ogbonna has denied the charges by pleading not guilty. The allegations remain before the court, and the prosecution is required to establish its case through the ongoing judicial proceedings.
