The actress shared her views during an interview on the African A-List podcast, where she also defended women raising children without husbands and challenged society’s attitude towards single mothers.
According to her, not every woman raising children alone deliberately chooses that path, as some find themselves in such situations because of circumstances beyond their control, including family-related challenges.
“Not everybody will have a husband to help them raise their children. So women have to carry their burden alone. Not all of them choose that life,” she said.
Idije argued that a woman should not be regarded as irresponsible simply because she does not have a husband, stressing that those who shoulder the responsibilities of raising children alone deserve recognition rather than condemnation.
She further suggested that some women might only find suitable partners later in life, noting that societal expectations should not force them into relationships before they are ready.
“Some situations are caused by enemies and others by family circumstances.
So, the fact that a woman doesn’t have a husband doesn’t mean she is a fool or does not know what she’s doing. Such a woman should be praised. If some women are not up to 40 or 50, they wouldn’t find a husband,” she stated.
The actress also questioned the pressure placed on women to get married in their early twenties, warning that rushing into marriage could expose them to the risk of choosing unsuitable partners.
“But if you start pressuring them at 20, how can you be sure that they won’t marry the wrong person?” she asked.
Speaking about motherhood, Idije added that having children could influence a woman’s disposition, saying: “When women start giving birth, they become softer.”
