Sowore Recounts Brutal Attack in Ekiti, Alleges Cover-Up

The AAC presidential candidate says about 20 suspected thugs attacked him at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, leaving him injured and requiring hospital treatment

Sowore spoke about the incident during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, alleging that about 20 attackers armed with sticks and bottles descended on him while he was meeting with supporters.

He said the assault occurred in broad daylight, adding that the attackers threatened to kill him if he returned to the state.

“They beat me like a criminal. They came from nowhere, about 20 of them, armed with sticks and bottles. They said they will kill me if I come to Ekiti again,” Sowore said.

The activist disclosed that he sustained injuries to his face and other parts of his body and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

He further claimed that the incident was captured by closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the restaurant but alleged that the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) had taken possession of the footage in an attempt to cover up the attack.

Sowore also accused the Ekiti State Government of sponsoring the assault as part of an alleged effort to silence opposition voices in the state.

The allegation had not received a response from the state government at the time of filing this report.

Despite the incident, the AAC candidate insisted that the attack would not deter him from speaking out or pursuing his political activities.

“I am not afraid. They can beat me, they can arrest me, but they cannot stop me from speaking the truth,” he added.
