The 24-year-old suffered the injury in the 42nd minute of Saturday’s encounter, October 31, at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium in Albacete, when home-team forward José Corpas struck him in the head while attempting a volley.
The incident occurred as both players challenged for the ball, with Corpas’ raised boot making contact with Liameed’s head and sending the Nigerian midfielder crashing to the pitch.
The frightening scenes prompted medical personnel from both clubs to rush onto the field to attend to the injured player.
Liameed briefly lost consciousness and received immediate medical attention before being fitted with a neck brace and carried off on a stretcher.
He was subsequently taken by ambulance to Hospital Quirón Santa Cristina for further examination under the medical concussion protocol.
Corpas was shown a straight red card for the challenge, leaving Albacete with 10 players for the remainder of the encounter. The match was briefly interrupted as medical personnel attended to the Nigerian.
Sabadell initially confirmed that Liameed was conscious and undergoing medical examinations, with the first results described as positive.
In an update published on November 1, the Spanish club announced that the midfielder had been discharged after the tests returned reassuring results.
“The best of the news has arrived!

“@Qlimeed has received medical discharge after all the tests have come out well and will return tonight to Sabadell!
“We want to thank the medical services of @AlbaceteBPSAD for the help received at all times,” the club said in a statement.
Liameed subsequently travelled back to Sabadell by car, accompanied by a member of the club’s medical staff.
His father, Hajji Gafar, also provided an update on his condition, expressing relief over the positive medical reports and confirming that his son was stable.
“My son is now in a stable condition and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours.
The Spanish medical team attending to him gave me some encouraging news yesterday, and I am relieved and grateful,” he said, according to reports by Bsnsports.
Gafar added that he intended to travel to Spain within 10 days to visit his son and support him through his recovery.
Despite playing with a numerical disadvantage following Corpas’ dismissal, Albacete held on to secure a 2-1 victory over Sabadell.
The incident has drawn attention to the risks players face during aerial and high-ball challenges, particularly when opponents attempt acrobatic strikes in crowded areas.
According to reports, Corpas could face a suspension of between four and 12 matches under Article 102 of the Spanish football disciplinary code if the incident is classified as causing serious injury.
However, the final punishment remains subject to a decision by the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee.
Born in Lagos on April 8, 2002, Liameed began his football career with Lagos-based 36 Lion FC before moving to Spain.
He subsequently featured for Lleida Esportiu before joining Sabadell in July 2025.

His hospital discharge will come as a relief to his club, family and supporters, although further medical assessment will determine the next stage of his recovery and when he can resume football activities.
