MC Oluomo Takes English Lessons After Past Backlash
The NURTW president disclosed his decision at a Tinubu re-election rally, more than a year after facing online criticism over his pronunciation of “kudos”
The President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has disclosed that he is taking English lessons to improve his spoken fluency, following years of public attention over his communication skills.

Akinsanya made the disclosure on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, while addressing Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, and other attendees at a rally organised in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking in Yoruba, the transport union leader acknowledged that both he and Lege Miami struggled with fluent English, adding that he had decided to attend classes to improve his communication.
“Neither of us speaks English fluently, so I am taking classes to improve. I travel around the world. I am a citizen of America.
“When I get to immigration and they ask how many weeks I want to stay, I tell them no, this is my home. I am a US citizen; I am going home,” he said.
MC Oluomo also spoke about his children’s educational and professional achievements in the United States, saying they had established careers in different fields.
“My children can speak better than me. My children in the US are nurses, a doctor and an engineer,” he said.
He added that he sometimes relied on his children to communicate on his behalf when he found it difficult to express himself in English.
“If I get somewhere and cannot speak English well, I will give the microphone to one of my children,” he added.
The disclosure has attracted attention online, particularly because of the criticism Akinsanya faced in April 2025 after a video showed him pronouncing the word “kudos” as “kundusi” while praising members of the transport union in Abuja.
The incident generated widespread reactions on social media, with some users mocking his pronunciation and questioning his command of English.
Responding to the criticism at the time, Akinsanya acknowledged that he was not formally educated and might struggle to express himself in English. However, he dismissed the suggestion that his language skills defined his achievements.
“Grammar won’t finish Nigeria, I might not understand the English language, but I understand Yoruba,” he said.
He also challenged his critics to compare their achievements with those of his children, whom he described as highly educated and citizens of the United States and the United Kingdom.
“I trained my children properly with money. My children are citizens of America and the United Kingdom. I worked hard to get there,” he added.
Akinsanya’s latest comments suggest a willingness to improve a skill that has repeatedly attracted public scrutiny, while maintaining that his achievements should not be judged solely by his command of the English language.

His remarks also come amid renewed public attention surrounding Lege Miami, who organised the rally in support of Tinubu’s re-election campaign. The actor was visibly emotional at the gathering while thanking MC Oluomo and other attendees for their support.
